About Us
The Gallery Players’ first production was “Barefoot in the Park” performed in May 1971 at the Catholic Church of
the Blessed Sacrament in Burlington.
In the early 1970s, Alamance County Arts Association president Catherine Moser asked Burlington residents Dover Moore and Ira Drake to study the possibility of starting a community theater group. Through their efforts and the contributions of many, The Gallery Players was formed.
We drew our name from the gallery craftshop and gallery exhibit room at the arts center. For the first eight years, The Gallery Players performed in school auditoriums and churches across the county. In 1977, our theater group found a new home at the Paramount Theater.
The Gallery Players have continued to perform four shows annually at the Paramount Theater, 128 E. Front St., Burlington, since it reopened in February 1998.
